The Huntsville Kitchen Remodeling Process
Huntsville Quality Kitchen Cabinets walks every kitchen cabinet project in Huntsville, AL through the same clear process — because the number one complaint homeowners have about contractors isn't the work, it's not knowing what's happening or when.
How Every Kitchen Cabinet Project Works
From the first call to the final walk-through. No surprises, no vague timelines, no hand-off to subcontractors you've never met.
Every project is built and installed by the same team. The person who measures your kitchen is the same person whose crew installs it. That continuity is what keeps projects on schedule and on spec.
The First Call
You call or fill out the contact form. We ask a few basic questions: what you're trying to do, whether the cabinets are new or a remodel, rough kitchen size, and your general timeline. This isn't a sales call. It's us figuring out whether we're a good fit for your project and whether your project is the right fit for our schedule. If it is, we set up the on-site visit.
On-Site Measure and Consultation
We come to your home with a tape measure, a laser level, and a notepad — not a tablet with a sales presentation. During the visit we:
- ✓ Measure every wall, ceiling height, window, door opening, and appliance position
- ✓ Note any structural issues, out-of-plumb walls, or irregular ceiling heights
- ✓ Discuss your goals, your style preferences, and what's not working about the current kitchen
- ✓ Talk through realistic options and tradeoffs at your budget level
- ✓ Answer any questions you have about the process, timeline, or materials
Design Development
We take your measurements and conversations back to the shop and develop a complete design. You receive a full set of drawings showing every cabinet, dimension, and configuration — exactly what we're proposing to build and where every piece goes. This includes door style, finish color, wood species, interior accessories, and hardware specification. We don't use 3D rendering software that makes things look better than they are. We use accurate drawings that show exactly what you're getting.
Design Review and Approval
We go through the design together — in person or by video call — and make changes until it's right. Common adjustments at this stage include:
- ✓ Changing a cabinet configuration to better fit a specific storage need
- ✓ Adjusting finish or wood species after seeing a sample in your actual lighting
- ✓ Adding or removing storage accessories based on cost tradeoffs
- ✓ Reconfiguring the layout to better suit traffic flow or appliance placement
Production
Once you've approved the design and signed the contract, production begins in our Huntsville shop. Every cabinet box, face frame, door, and drawer front is built from scratch to your specifications. We use furniture-grade plywood for boxes, solid hardwood for face frames and doors, and Blum® hardware throughout. You'll receive a production update at the midpoint — we'll tell you where things stand and confirm the installation date.
Pre-Installation Preparation
About a week before installation, we confirm the following with you:
- ✓ Old cabinets are removed or we've scheduled our demo crew to handle it
- ✓ Walls are accessible and countertops are cleared
- ✓ Plumber and electrician have been notified if any utility work is needed
- ✓ Delivery access is confirmed (for large kitchen orders)
- ✓ You know exactly when we're arriving and approximately how long installation will take
Installation
Our in-house installation crew arrives — not a subcontracted team we've handed your job to. We protect your floors and adjacent surfaces, remove old cabinets if needed, and install everything level, plumb, and square. Upper cabinets go in first. Base cabinets follow. Every door and drawer gets adjusted to proper alignment before we leave. At the end of each day, we clean up and leave the space as usable as possible.
Final Walk-Through and Touch-Up
Before we leave the job, we walk through every cabinet together. We check door alignment, drawer operation, hardware consistency, and finish quality. If anything isn't right, we fix it before we go — not on a callback weeks later. You get a written care guide for your specific finish type and hardware. We follow up 30 days later to make sure everything is still operating correctly and to address any adjustments.
Common Questions About the Process
These are the questions we hear most often from Huntsville homeowners who haven't worked with a custom cabinet shop before. Knowing what to expect makes the whole process smoother.
Do I need to move out during installation?
No. Kitchen installations are disruptive but livable. We try to complete installation in consecutive days so you're without a functional kitchen for the shortest time possible. Most clients set up a temporary kitchen in another room with a microwave and coffee maker.
What if I change my mind after signing?
Design changes before production starts are easy to accommodate. Once production begins, changes may affect the timeline and cost depending on what's already been built. We'll be upfront about any implications before making changes.
Do you handle countertop installation?
We coordinate with countertop fabricators and make sure your cabinet specs are correct for the countertop material you choose. We don't fabricate countertops in-house, but we've worked with enough fabricators in Huntsville to make a recommendation.
What warranty do you provide?
We warranty our cabinet construction and installation workmanship for two years from installation date. Hardware is covered by the manufacturer's warranty — Blum® provides a lifetime warranty on their hinge and slide systems.
